UCCD'S PRISON MINSITRY IS CHANGING THE LIVES OF THOUSANDS OF INMATES IN EIGHT MAXIMUM SECURITY PRISONS IN EL SALVADOR.
We believe that best way to bring about transformation, is by doing preventing work with the youth and by developing rehabilitation programs for gang members.
UCCD
PRISON MINSISTRY
El Salvador is suffering a humanitarian crisis. According to The Salvadorian Institute of Legal Medicine , El Salvador is one of the most violent countries in the world. With homicide occurrences three times higher than in Mexico and 17 times higher than the global average. Due to a war between the MS13 and Barrio 18 gangs (and both gangs war against the authorities), the situation has destroyed many families and has ruined countless communities.
Our ministry started working in the San Miguel prison in mid 2001 under the leadership of Pastor José Luis Soto, and with approval of the Salvadorean government. The following year, we extended our outreach to other prisons such as: Union prison, and the Ciudad Barrios prison (Mara Salva Truchas gang), as well as other medium and minimum security prisons.
Since our beginnings, we have helped more than 158,000 prisoners in 8 maximum security prisons, around the country. Throughout the years, our records show that thousands of prisoners have accepted Jesus as their personal Savior. As a result, a large number of them, have become anointed preachers who share their testimony and the word of God everywhere they go.
Our representatives Enrique Obispo and his wife Ana, supervise our entire Prison ministry in El Salvador. We are proud to share that prisoner who have served their sentence, attend church and receive spiritual follow-ups every Sunday.
Many of the prisoners will never be released from jail, due to their long term sentences. Nevertheless, inmates who have accepted Christ, congregate every Sunday and lead services to worship The Lord, praise Him, and share their personal testimony of how God has transformed their life.
Local authorities and the secretary general of the prisons have requested our ministry to visit all 21 maximum security prisons. We are doing everything we can to make this possible. However, the costs are high and we need your financial support to help us continue our ministry.
